Japanese Drugstore Hunt 2000JPY & Below: Eyeshadow

Good morning, my fellow beauty junkies! I’ve been really looking forward to writing up this post because it’s one of my favourite topics — eyeshadows! And no guesses that one of the most coveted items from the Japanese drugstore is the cheap but good quality eyeshadow quad.

There are so many drugstore brands that make great eyeshadow palettes (Coffret D’Or and Esprique come to mind) but the quality is noticeably worse for wear as you go down the price scale. The ones that I think are worth trying are mostly within the 1300-1500JPY range. But having said that, I found a pretty pigmented eyeshadow quad at Daiso for only 100JPY so that theory doesn’t always apply!

I’m a big fan of Kate, Lavshuca, Visee, and Majolica Majorca. Though I don’t have a few other brands like Integrate and Canmake, it doesn’t mean I think they aren’t good. I have tried them before and they were really old so I tossed them out. Also, I have so many quads that I really have to pick and choose what to buy though I’m keen as beans to try the upcoming Integrate Pure Big Eyes collection – anyone else looking forward to that?

The thing about drugstore eyeshadow quads is that you can’t expect every single shade to be a winner and that’s fine by me as long as I can get a great look out of them.

Just a few pointers on what is what:

Kate is across the board a solid brand but their packaging is really not the best though eyeshadows tend to be reasonably pigmented.

Lavshuca is incredibly soft, buttery, and pigmented which I think ranks it at the top for eyeshadows though they kind of flail with their other products (their lippies are great though!).

Majolica Majorca has pretty good quads but they have quite a bit of fallout. What they lack in quality, they make up for in vibrant colour combinations and cute cases.

Visee does a stream of limited edition palettes with various clothing brands so their edgy designs are exceptionally attractive and the quality of their eyeshadows is almost always pigmented and they have some amazing shades.

So I picked out two of my favouritest quads…

Lavshuca OR-1, 1600JPY which is what I call a true coral palette.

Look at all the lovely coral shades! There is a peach highlighting shade, then a pure coral colour, then a toffee shade that has warm orange undertones, and finally a solid warm medium brown. I couldn’t stop using this palette after I bought it since I’m digging coral so much this season. The quality is astounding for the price though their other quads kind of look like what I already have in my collection.

Next is the ancient Visee Glam Nude Eyes N-7 Blond Fur palette I got three years ago. I am surprised I love it this much because I seriously bought it because it was on sale and I just started exploring neutral colours then. I have never looked back since.

The first three shades on the left are the ones I use the most because they create such a lovely everyday nude look with their milky coffee shades. They are also pigmented and buttery in texture. The two shades on the right side are just light shimmery highlighters that are meant to be lightly washed over to add a final gleam to your look. But if you are familiar with Japanese drugstore quads, you will know that there is at least one such shade in the mix which would be traditionally seen as not pigmented enough or too glittery for those with more Western tastes.

So this is where the fun really starts, I want you to tell me what is your ULTIMATE favourite Japanese drugstore eyeshadow quad palette and WHY?
